禁食(금식)할 때에 너희는 外飾(외식)하는 者(자)들과 같이 슬픈 氣色(기색)을 보이지 말라
그들은 禁食(금식)하는 것을 사람에게 보이려고 얼굴을 凶(흉)하게 하느니라
내가 眞實(진실)로 너희에게 이르노니
그들은 自己(자기) 償(상)을 이미 받았느니라
너는 禁食(금식)할 때에 머리에 기름을 바르고 얼굴을 씻으라
이는 禁食(금식)하는 者(자)로 사람에게 보이지 않고
오직 隱密(은밀)한 中(중)에 계신 네 아버지께 보이게 하려 함이라

"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,
so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
